grace jones, ikonika, burning star core: menace

Not many artistes cd - in 2008 - pull off a song called ‘Corporate Cannibal’, with all the clunky subversomatic lyrical twists that implies. But: Grace Jones has such unblinking, pre-ironic presence, I actually think she faces quibbles down. Phantasmic.

Ikonika’s ‘Please’ has been getting a lot of play in mid-office afternoons; it’s just so strangely itch/scratch awrwr satisfying. But inky; easily bruised.

Last - here’s a Burning Star Core video. The song is titled ‘Beauty Hunter’. Doors loom.

I recently saw a Grace Jones interview where a breathy journalist/semifan squealed, “Where DO you get your clothes?” Grace replied, genuinely confused, “This (pointing to her skirt) was a gift, and this (pointing to her top) I bought from a store…where do you get yours?”

She just is. Monolithic.

That Grace Jones song is dying for a remix.
