					<description>My girlfriend insists that only Camera Obscura's 'Underachievers Must Try Harder' will lull my 11 month old to sleep in the car on the way to nursery. Which was great for the first few times cos I like it but after 3 months, 3 days a week...

I have very fond memories of coming home from work and slow dancing round the living room with her every night when she was just a few months old, Neil Youngs Greatest Hits on the stereo, desparate to keep her happy. Eventually we realised she was tired so just put her in bed for the night. Don't think I've listened to that CD since

					<description>Mah-na-mah-na is of course originally from a Swedish soft porn flick. Not the kind of thing that first comes to mind when choosing music for kids. Although I must admit it's a big favourite with my 2-year old. (Piero Umiliani's original that is).
As for suggestions for volume 2, the upbeat songs on Kevin Rowland's My Beauty used to go down well when my son was a month or two old.

					<description>I'll second what Milo said. I've been forced to listen to it thousands of times by my children, but I still end up putting it on for myself from time to time when they're in bed.

					<description>&#34;I think I want to have kids just so I can raise them on Jonathan Richman's music...&#34;

That's kinda selfish don't you think? Kids aren't Airfix kits deigned for your petty amusement.

					<description>I have found that a mixture 'Six Organs Of Admittance' and 'Stars Of The Lid' have a very calming influence on my 7 week old baby. Our 5 year old has a very low threshhold for listening to music, although brief spurts 'Lightning Bolt' or 'Lighting Bulb' as he prefers to call them can get him to trash the sitting room in very short order. A friend who works in a nursery found the 'Konono No 1' CD I gave him had a great calming effect on his young charges, as well as, predictably, Raymond Scott's 'Soothing Sounds For Baby'.

					<description>I think I want to have kids just so I can raise them on Jonathan Richman's music...

I think I would add to this list a great cover of The Hives 'Hate to Say I Told You So' by The Flu.

An mp3 of this tune can be found at:
