Everyones being a bit rational here for my liking. I didn’t even go and see the film because I know I’ll hate and saved some money instead.
When a book changes the way you think about where you’re going to go and what you want to be, it doesn’t who the cast are or how much you spend on special effects. Its not what you have in your head. I found that out thirty seconds after watching ‘fear and loathing’ for the first time. And thats not even a bad film. For all it did for me, they might as well have made a movie out of a Kurt Vonnegut novel. Just doesn’t work.

But tron is quality and doctor who was only exciting for children who didn’t get enough sugar due to rationing.

I thought the movie was excellent. Now i have only read the first book of the series, but as a combo of my two favorite genres, it was an great sci-com. the actors were well chosen and it left me happy and fullfilled in the end.
I laughed, i had chills, and i left fullfilled.
and marvin neve seemed paranoid to me. i always thought he wan manic depressive. so in my opinion he was a nice successor to the marvin from the "mid-80’s embarrassmen" which i will agree was pretty bad but funny as hell because of it.
As for tron, that was awesome in to many aspects to go into but i will.
it was the first movie to have computer animation in it
and it was by disney, who saw that shit coming
not to mention jeff bridges, if you dont like jeff you havent seen "the big labowski"

now that that is written go back and watch the motorcycle scene again and you will have a new found love.

I really enjoyed the film. Seriously. It was funny, good fun, looked AMAZING (and in a lot of ways exactly how I’d always imagined it, which was lucky). But why did you go there expecting to see the books? You’ve read the books - that’s been done already. The film was supposed to be a new take on the Hitchhikers universe, and it was. I admit the film had some flaws, but the flaws you pick out are kind of silly. Not meant to have a love story? There was a love story in "So Long and Thanks For All the Fish". And on the plus side for the film, Trillian was finally made into something more than a characterless prop. And you’re nitpicking about special effects?? Of course HGTTG should have special effects! It’s a sci-fi comedy set in SPACE!

Jesus. You guys. Nobody has ruined the books, the radio show, the TV show (which was crap anyway), or the interactive computer game by making a film. Try accepting something new into your lives.

(Oh, and as a last note, Arthur was always a coward - he was scared and/or bemused by everything he encountered, as any normal Englishman/Human would be if flung unexpectedly into the depths of space).

I loved the books. I loved the radio show. I loved the interactive fiction computer game. I’ll sure won’t risk to spoil all the good memories by going to see the movie.

The idea of a movie was always doomed. If they’d managed to make it 20 years ago, when the idea first kicked off, it would have been some kind of mid-80s embarrassment. Probably something like Tron. Now it’s just a big bloody music video.

And don’t get me started on Dr Who…
