Friday 4 March

I have a new record out, my first seven-inch in over a decade (since the ill-fated and much quoted ‘Do Nuts’, in fact). It’s very exciting: CDs are fine and all, but nothing beats the thrill of slowing sliding the vinyl out of the cardboard sleeve, feeling the paper crinkle and snap back into shape, static playing on your fingers…and then lifting the stylus onto the record for the first time. The record is two cover versions of songs made unpopular by Mr Daniel Treacy (TV Personalities), ‘If I Could Write Poetry’ and ‘Sense Of Belonging’, recorded live, first time out the traps, one rehearsal, at the Albert a while ago. If you do care to purchase a copy, you should go to here at Tangents, which is also a very fine site. obviously.

Or you could write direct to me, where you can also obtain the aforementioned ‘Do Nuts’ single - it’s a part of grunge history, you know! - and several other old seven-inchers if you so desire. Just thought I’d mention it.

I seem to have a flexi-disc by you from a long long while ago. I can’t remember what it sounds like. Perhaps I should try I locate it and play it? Then again….

Didn’t you release something on black and white vinyl?

"Everything’s coming up roses" is one of my favourite songs ever.

Thanks, Filippo.
It was actually written on the way to the vet’s, to put down my little white kitten who’d developed feline leukemia…it was quite bittersweet.

And the black and white vinyl was ‘Step Aside’ (Constrictor, 1987 - I think)

The Legend Continues …

I Look forward to picking up a copy of the new 7" on Unpopular (What a Great Label) and if Everett is willing we may include a Legend song on "If I Could Write Poetry …" The Television Personalities Tribute Series which will Rock the world very soon.

Jerry, did you hear JC Brochard’s version of 73 in 83 (83 in 2003)? It’s a cracker. Especially the line ‘Creation is dead now’. I hear you have a track on a coming June Brides tribute album. Minks have done one too. Nice to be label mates again after all these years…

Rushed home last night with my Legend! 7", slapped it on the turntable; hated it.
Tried it again; hated it.
Thinking I might pass it on to one of three suitable genre obsessives I tried it one last time. Bastard! I love it, I’m keeping it!

i listened to the television personalities in the headphones today. remembered the first time i heard them, in a car w/ jennifer, and recalled her immeadiate exclamation that she was convinced it was actually you singing. literally, she thought that you were trying to trick us, passing the beauty off as someone else’s, ’cause yr shy.
and now this.

i am excited to hear the music as you actually do become it…

I don’t know why Alan McGhee says that “72 in 83″ is the worstrecord of all time. Heared in the context of it’s sister tracks,”You were Glamourous” and “Melt the Guns”, it’s probably one of the most gloves off thought provoking 7″ singles ever, better than any copycat tribe Oasis ever dreamt up??
