In order to spend time in the week on this magazine and pay my rent also, I work all weekends with little or no internet access. Oh, and someone in the Plan B inner cabal chopped my hands off for mentioning it. I am writing this with my toes. It's like this. Word count divided by necessary history times how much prior knowledge is to be assumed plus a bit of superfluous subjective detail and fancy language that gets you called all kinds of names on the forum minus caring about that proportional to just get the damn feature done Frances and make sure it adds up to 100% in the end. It's only useful when you're writing about an artist with a past that your readers may or may not be aware of, and you're trying to work out how much information is useful without being overkill.
