cello and orchestra

To understand why Grace loves the Destroyer album I must listen to it again. She wrote me a beautiful description of why she loved it, and yet I can’t listen to it now because I am mainlining Morton Feldman and this is a necessary act.

Last night someone was saying music was all about balance, as I sat there ever more sideways and off-point. Now this music is beyond balance. Every edge is blurred as soon as it comes into view, and every point of light drifting into darkness just as you got used to it. Comes from a place without gravity; no balance required.

Andrew - the Feldman recordig was Robert Cohen on cello and the New World Symphony on the rest. Argo records.I got it from the library because I had a burning need to hear Coptic Light again and it was on the same CD. I would love to hear other recordings of the same piece.

Grace - Destroyer’s time’ll come (in this house), promise. The balance person was a musician of my acquaintance. We agreed and disagreed in equal measure. I floundered a little; he had more regular features than me and a more precise voice. I think he won. Let us leave it there, in this public space an’ all.
