get ready

This week’s obsession with Bill Laswell’s Baselines reaches its peak today as I decide it’s the only thing worth listening to in this weather. Read a review of it on some jazzers’ site that said it was good getting ready to go out music, which kind of tickled me, the idea of avant-jazz fans getting ready to go out to the sound of Baselines. It’s just a funny image is all. I’ll try it sometime, substitute it for my usual getting ready music.

I wonder if all those !!!-type bands have heard this record. As far as I know it’s not on the List Of early-80s NYC Stuff It’s Cool To Sound Like (and correct me if I’m wrong). It should be, for accuracy’s sake; it shouldn’t be, because everyone knows that making a record fashionable in the short-term can kill it in the long term.

Whatever. Get ready to Bill Laswell. There’s a Prophet-5 and everything.

In other news, my hairdresser has just acquired a rabbit called Bu-chan. And I went to see Pelican. They rocked like woolly mammoths cantering slowly over a vast, volcanic plain. They honestly did.
